Wayne Schnell – Treasurer, FFI Gulf Coast Council
A native of New Orleans with a lifetime love of chasing fish with conventional tackle, Wayne decided to take up Fly Fishing during the COVID-19 pandemic. While learning fly casting from YouTube videos on his front lawn, a neighbor recommended he join the New Orleans Fly Fishers Club, which he did and was immediately greeted by genuine fly-fishing pros and amateurs who shared many common experiences. After jumping in headfirst, he realized how much he had to learn and how the mentorship of the NOFFC would help him grow in the sport.
Soon after, Wayne became the new NOFFC webmaster, rebuilt the club’s antiquated website and accepted the offer to participate at the board level. In short, his love of the art and sport has grown exponentially. Wayne has participated as a volunteer at the GCC Gulf Coast Classic and as a demonstration fly tyer at the Kisatchie Fly Fishers’ Cenla Fly Fishing Expo.
As Treasurer, Wayne also serves on the GCC Executive Committee and the Gulf Coast Classic Planning Committee. In addition, as the owner of Schnell Consulting, Wayne also brings a wealth of experience as an IT consultant to the council.
