Fly Name Silli Minnow

Species Bream, Crappie
Description

The Silli Minnow is a flyfisher’s version of the tube jig. The tube jig was created in 1964 by the legendary Bobby Garland and is one of the most effective crappie lures of all time. At a flyfishing show in North Carolina in 1999, Catch watched a tier demonstrate a “Gitzit Fly” named after the original tube jig, using regular chenille and spinnerbait skirt material for the tail. The Silli Minnow improves on that concept, using a flashy chenille body and thin silicone skirts known as “Sili Legs”. It can be tied on a jighead (see notes below), or on a 60 degree jig hook with a tungsten beadhead. Catch says the Silli Minnow is the best crappie fly he has ever fished, period!
